Test and measurement automation
A lot of development time goes into measuring things by hand. I build the software and hardware that automate this: instruments that are controlled from one place, measurement sequences that run on their own, and results that are stored the same way every time.
Examples
At Hortilux I set up a calibration system for the in-house light lab: an integrating sphere and a spectrometer, with software around them. Calibration and measurement follow a fixed procedure, and the software guides the operator through every step, so everyone measures the same way. This makes the measurements more accurate and repeatable, and LEDs of different brands and types can be compared fairly.
A separate tool, my LED calibration system, measures LED boards at a controlled temperature, regulated within 0.1 °C, while measuring current and voltage at the same time. It is controlled wirelessly, so it fits into different lab setups.
Muxit
Since January 2026 I am building Muxit, a software platform for laboratory and instrument automation: one server for every instrument on the bench, scriptable and with a visual interface. It is in private beta.
