LED and optics problems
Sometimes the question is narrow. A design that needs a second opinion before it goes to tooling. Lights that fail in the field and nobody knows why. A spectrum or a beam that has to be right before you commit to it.
I have worked on LED systems and optics since 1996, first at Philips and Lumileds, later at Philips Lighting and my own company Invisua. That covers LEDs and phosphors, nonimaging optics, colour mixing, thermal behaviour and drivers.
Typical work:
- Design review: a critical look at optics, thermal design, LED choice and drive conditions.
- Field-failure analysis: finding the cause of failures in products that are already installed.
- Spectral and optical modelling: colour mixing, spectra for horticulture, beam shaping and light distribution.
For optical modelling I wrote my own tool, ShadyTracer, a path tracer that runs in the browser and works with light in real units.
